FAQ
What does it mean that a Polymarket market is "in dispute"?
When someone challenges a market's proposed resolution, the question escalates to UMA's Data Verification Mechanism: UMA holders vote on-chain on the correct outcome in a commit-reveal round. Until the vote concludes, the market stays disputed and payouts are frozen.
Why does the price move during a dispute?
Trading often remains open while the dispute runs: the price reflects the probability that the UMA vote confirms or overturns the proposed outcome. Sharp moves here mean the market is changing its mind about how the oracle will vote.
What are commit and reveal?
UMA voting has two phases: voters first submit a hash of their vote (commit), then disclose it (reveal). The reveal count and revealed stake show how much participation the dispute has already drawn.
